I have a small reflection.
It occurred to me today that nothing in the Christian epic of reality can be called mundane. We are so used to separating things into categories: out of the ordinary and ordinary, normal and surprising, everyday and special. But if God exists and He created everything, then everything is glorious. The simplest things - or what we often mistakenly characterize as simple things - are caught up in the larger Christian epic and suffused with eternal significance. They are to be experienced with intense delight by those who know and love God, those who realize the depth of every perfect gift from His hand. The last, the lost, and the least are not forgotten in this story; they are central players. No one is left behind, and no element of creation stands outside the care and redemption of the holy God. When life is received with a constant stream of thankfulness, we are approaching the posture for which we were created. Every little thing He does is beautiful, and the intrusion of evil will one can be vanquished as well. How can we ask for more? What greater vision of reality is there but shalom, justice, peace, and well-being throughout the land? Eternal happiness? Eternal love? Eternal creativity and delight? God is infinitely creative, from mountains to blades of grass, and nothing can be called mundane in His glorious economy - if we are open to see how extraordinary it all really is.
